From version 7 onwards topas will automatically update.

This can be controlled via two files in your topas directory: ver.txt and ver-new.txt.

the first number in ver.txt is either a 1 or a 0 which says “Check for updates” or “Don't check for updates”.

Checking for updates is fast and doesn't slow launch times significantly. Updates will normally not require new license files.
