Hello! Reaching out to other TOPAS users before I lose my sanity.
I'm having issues loading my previously saved project files. Files I've saved prior to 11:25 on August 17th 2018 are loading correctly.
Files saved after 11:33 on August 17th are coming up with this error:
*** Error loading sstring_in
at LINE 6494
See log file C:\TOPAS4-2\topas.log
File extension not supported!
There are no updates to my OS that occurred even remotely close to this date and very small time window
The line changes with different files (3036 or 3037 for some multiphase brannerite files and 6494 or 6495 for some UO2 files) but always pertains to the Phase Name I've assigned to the or one of the structures I've inputted, either as "nitrided" or "UO2" for my own reference.
I can't seem to work out what has changed about those files that now means I can't open them, especially as half of the affected files are basically duplicates of the unaffected files with different scans loaded into them.
I can resave the unaffected files and open those correctly, but if I were to change the scan data within the unaffected files to other data and save, I then come across the same issue trying to reload. This occurs either with scan data for unaffected files or affected files. So if File A with Scan A loads correctly, and File B with Scan B loads correctly and I swapped Scan A for Scan B and resaved as File C, File C would encounter the string error.
I'm currently running Bruker TOPAS v4.2 on windows 10 and I input directly with the software, not via jedit.
Please help me not throw a major tantrum. Currently I've either lost a lot of Rietveld fittings or I'm in a position where I can use the software but never again access it which doesn't seem like a robust research process!
Appreciate any and all help!

Can you post an affected pro file and also the log file? You can attach one to a post.
.
Also look at the lines above were the error is. Are the phase names enclosed in quotes? Are there two phase names defined for any phase?
sarahos
So attached is one of the affected files, throwing the error at line 3037. From what I can see in the log file, each phase name is in quotes but none of them are double named

And the log file

Some further diagnostics, possibly helpful:
Have tried saving the accessible files as INP files and come across the same problem, the error is apparently at the lines of the phase name or the subsequent MVW values, although I can't see any pattern to these MVW values that would cause an issue in some files but not others
I've also tried a complete reinstall of the version of TOPAS I have available through uni with no luck

The file name in the PRO file contains the comment '; ie.
xdd "C:\Users\Swan\Google Drive\Uni\Sarah O'Sullivan- Oxynitrides project\Results\UTi2O6\800C 1hr 75ml_min\UTi2O6_75mlNH3_800_1hr.raw_1"
Remove this character and the PRO file will load; i.e.
Change FROM:
O'Sullivan
TO:
O-Sullivan
Cant understand why it loaded before.

You have a sharp eye Alan, thank you so much.
I knew changing my name was a bad idea!

Hi, I had the same problem:
xdd "N:\Servizi\Analisi\CONTROLLO QUALITA'\ADDITIVI\ADD ANTECRX 26LUG21 21CQ42693.raw"
I replaced QUALITA' with QUALITA and was able to load the .pro file.
At this point the problem is the ' character.
Thank you AlanCoelho and SarahOS
